THE NEIGHBORHOOD THEATRE - Charlotte, NC

RAIN BENEFIT:

We were all in 3 different cars traveling back from our show at the beach.  And wouldn't you know all the cars were about an hour late to sound check at the Neighborhood Theatre.  I showed up first...with nothing to set up and then soon after all the Misses showed up.  We set up really fast did a quick sound check and then I ran home took a shower threw on some clothes and then ran back.  We played a short set and made way for all the other groups of the night.  It was a really fun night but I know all of us were absolutely exhausted from the long, long, long trip.

SOUTH STRAND CONCERT SERIES - Murrell's Inlet, SC

This was such a fun show!  Phyllis Tannerfrye started off the night and Cindy Novelo joined her on fiddle.  After Phyllis's set there was a potluck dinner then Cindy played a few of her songs.  Then we played, 3 of us were sick...and I'm happy to say it wasn't me this time...I think that's a first!  Poor Lea, she could barely talk, my throat was hurting for her.  The crowd thinned a little after the dinner, but the ones that stayed seemed to like us.

Cindy joined us a few songs, which by the way she had never heard before!  She completely blew us away; she can join us anytime she wants...too bad she lives across the country.  At the very end we sang with Phyllis on one her songs to close the evening.  She is such a sweetheart!

This was our first show using the new merch box... which is uber cool!  It was designed and painted by Kate Vasseur of Studio K.  WE LOVE IT SO MUCH!!!

The next day I ate some good seafood in Murrell's Inlet with my mom and did some consignment shopping and think the rest of the girls went to the beach again.

Then it was time to head back to Charlotte for our show at The Neighborhood Theatre...see next entry.

THE EVENING MUSE - Charlotte, NC

This show was so exciting for us because we were sharing the bill with Danielle Howle.  She started the night off with a beautiful set of a lot of the new songs (btw...go get her new record, it's so beautiful!).  The crowd was so great, Danielle was so sweet to us, and the energy on stage was perfect.  It was just an all around great night for us...not to mention our first SELL OUT!!!!   Best show so far, at least in my opinion.  YEAH!!!

THE GREY EAGLE - Asheville, NC

second trio show -

We stopped at a few places to hand out flyers for the show that night. One place Lea and I told Shana to go hand on to this cute guy sitting outside the coffee shop. She walked right up to him and asked "you got any plans tonight?". It sounded more like a pick-up-line than an ad for our show. He smiled at her and said "no, what's going on tonight?". I have no idea if he showed up or not but it was totally worth the flyer!

We went to The Grey Eagleto unpack and sound check. Met the newbies in The Everybodyfields, one of the groups we were playing with that night, and then headed to the Westville Pub for dinner. We were almost late getting back to The Grey Eagle but made it just in time to change clothes say hi to a few local friends and hit the stage.

We played our short 30 minute trio set to a decent crowd and made way for one of our favorite's, Jonathan Byrd. He is such a great songwriter plus he loves Anais Mitchell just as much as we do! Then The Everybodyfields took the stage and wowed the crowd (and us) which had doubled since we played. A few songs before their encore Lea told me she had locked her keys in the trunk so she needed my AAA card. Good thing I remembered it! We spent the rest of the show in the green room on the phone and then waiting by the car. Thanks to the AAA guy who got there so quickly and helped us out!!!

After the show we hung out for a little bit and then headed back to our hotel and crashed...yeah!

ate a lovely brunch the next morning at Rosetta's and then headed home.

THE EVENING MUSE - Charlotte, NC

This was our first official trio show (which you will continue to see from time to time). We played the show with Girlyman, a great band from NY with great songs and great harmonies...great, great, great!. The crowd seemed to like us even though we had 2 missing members. We played a short 30 min set and did pretty well although the energy felt different without the drums and the extra guitar. I had to play guitar on This is Your Day and that always freaks me out...but I got through it. Girlyman played a wonderful set which included Wild Thing! sung backwards (i.e.: Thing Wild!) it was really funny. good night!

THE VISULITE - Charlotte, NC

This was a special show...Lea, Shana, and I decided to do the show even though Eva and Jill couldn't do it.  So we called in some help from our friend and drummer extraordinaire Shawn Lynch.

We practiced almost every Tuesday night to small crowds at the Muse and felt good about the new sound.  The show started off a little rocky because silly me...messed up my own song...BUT Shawn saved the day and kept us going.  The rest of the show went really well and we got a lot of good feedback about it.

Also that night was gogoPilot, Todd Busch, and The Virginia Reel all of whom we are fans of and think you should go check out!

Misses are Bad Bloggers!

Turns out that the Near Misses are bad-bloggers. Who knew! I thought we'd promptly post every minute detail of our existence as a band. But no - and that's probably for the best. We are so yappy at our gigs, I guess we get it all out on stage.

FOURTH WARD HOLIDAY HOME TOUR - Charlotte, NC

OKAY...not my favorite show but I know many photographers loved it!  Our good friend Beth asked us to sing some holiday songs for the 4th Ward home tour.  Sure, why not, good exposure!  Then she asked us if we would mind wearing Victorian attire for it?  Before I had a chance to "hell no!"  Lea said..."yeah, that would be fun!"

So a week before the day of the show we went to a few stores and found some Victorian clothes and capes...to keep us warm...cause it's December and we will be outside!

The day of the show happened to be one of the hottest days all winter and my cape, fur hat, and fur muff were about to kill me!!!  Anyway, we sang all right, I guess...I don't really know.  I'll I remember is singing the same 8 songs about 5 times...that's always fun!

No really, it was a fun day.  Pictures coming soon...

JAMMIN' JAVA - Columbia, SC

Our second trip to Columbia was a little better than the first but not by much.  We just can't seem to get the word out there.  The place was really nice though and they were super nice to us.  The soundman's young son chatted with us almost all night.  Jill gave him a ring.  I had a friend from high school show up at the show, which was a nice surprise, and about an hour before the show I started feeling sick...a not so nice surprise.  It was an okay night.

HALLOWEEN SHOWS 2005

We had 2 shows this weekend, the first in Hickory, NC at Drips Coffeehouse.  Since it was Halloween Weekend we decided to dress up like "real" rock stars…I don't think the hipster kids of Hickory really understood.  I think they thought we actually dressed like that and then got on stage and sang our folky songs.

PHOTO COMING SOON...CHECK BACK SOON

The next night we played at Belmont Abbey College.  My friend Ruth works there and got us the gig.  We decided to dress up again cause we figured...why the hell not!

When we first got there this Father, as in Priest, came up to us and said, "Please take off your garments and get comfortable".  We all thought he was dressed up and was joking...but...no he was really a priest and when he said garments he meant coats.  It was an interesting show.  We had a few people come out that we knew.

After the show a bunch of us headed to The Visulite for The Noises 10 cd release party.  Everyone there was dressed up and I'm sure I ran straight into people I knew and had no idea who they were.  They put on one great Rock show...please, please, please go check them out...THE NOISES 10.

LADYFEST SOUTH - Durham, NC

We were really excited about this show. and well, we were a little let down.  Actually we didn't even play.  When we got there it was packed for the dance part of the evening.  But as the night progressed the numbers slowly faded until there was no one left.

So, we decided to go to our friend Liz's house and do a house concert instead.  It just happened there was a party already going on at her house that night...so well, it all worked out.  We hung out for a while, ran down to the gas station for some dinner, picked up some beers, and then played for the crowd.

In the morning Liz cooked a wonderful breakfast for all of us along with all 7 (I think) housemates and then we hit the road.

We didn't make it far though we stopped at The Whole Food to grab some lunch.

We then drove an hour or so to Dan Nichols Park in Salisbury, NC.

We had a nice picnic there and then went walking around the park and found many interesting things...

Eva has been working/living at the park for a few months now and she showed us what she was building and where she was living...

After everything was said and done we had a blast!  But don't worry...we are not giving up on Durham, not yet at least.

CAFE STRUDEL - Columbia, SC

This was our first time playing in Columbia, SC.  We really didn't know what to expect.  Half of us got lost which put us there late.  Chandler, Deanna, and Brooke came with us.  They got us drinks and food and then worked our merch booth for us.  There sure weren’t a whole lot of people there but there were a few that came and seemed to enjoy us.  We were supposed to play two sets but because we started so late we just ended up doing one set.  I hope the people that liked us come back when we play at Jammin' Java.

TH DOUBLE DOOR - Charlotte, NC

Our first show at the legendary Double Door Inn.  We opened for Crisis another Charlotte band.  When Lea got out of her car I saw that we were wearing almost the same shirt...I wish I had a photo to show you...we were just too cute.  After we set up our stuff Lea, Shana, and I went down to Carpe Diem to see Brendan and have a quick drink and then to NOFO for some good food.  Then we high-tailed it back to the DD just in time to run on stage and play.  I was a little tipsy which always makes for a fun night...right?!

Amps 11 "Venus Envy" Showcase

A few months back we were asked to be a part of the Amps 11 "Venus Envy" showcase.  The line up was... Uberdose...The Near Misses...Elevator Action...and Bellglide.   I was a little nervous about this show b/c it was my first time playing The Visulite and it was a ROCK SHOW...and in case you haven't noticed we are not exactly your typical rock band.  But being the only all female band playing that night I felt like we deserved our spot.

It took a few minutes to figure out the sound situation.  As for our show...I'm not sure how we did.  I know it went fast and our friends said it was good...loud...but good.  We sold some cd's and t-shirts and made some new friends.  it was a wicked fun night.

july 16th - CANYONS - BLOWING ROCK, NC

CANYONS

We left on Friday just for the heck of it.  Jill, Lea, and I drove up together Shana came up separately and Eva couldn't make it.  We stayed at The Green Park Inn, which is supposedly haunted.  I don't think it was haunted but I do think it was really old.  After we checked in we went out in search of The Mountain Times  because we were hoping there would be write up about us and sure enough there was!!!!  When we got back to the hotel the power was off - lighting hit it.  We left again to go walk around and ended up getting soaked from all the rain.  Not so good for jill and I who only had a few things to wear for the whole weekend.  We met up with Shana and headed to Canyons to hear Tater.

They were lots of fun.  Afterwards we drove into Boone to the Huddle House.  It was a really long but really fun day.  Sat. I woke up really early ready to start the day but the rest of the girls slept in.  We headed to Boone to eat at one of my favorite Restaurants Angelica's.  We went to a few stores and got soaked again.  Got back to the hotel, Jill and I took a nap, while Shana and Lea played music on the porch.  I joined them after I woke up and then finally Jill came too.  It was a nice to practice right before the show.  Then we got ready and headed to Canyons.  They provided us with a very nice dinner.  Sound check took some time but we only started a few minutes late.  Lots of people came because of the write up which was very exciting.  We played 3 45 min. sets and only repeated 2 or 3 songs.  We sold some merch and met some very nice people from Blowing Rock and believe it or not some from Charlotte.  It was about 2:30am when we got back to the hotel and everyone was outside and there were police and fire engines.  We waited about an hour before they let us back in.  There was no fire but because of the event we got an even bigger discount than we had originally thought.

This is how we wreck a hotel room...with knitting needles and jingle bells!!

The next morning we woke up pretty early but not early enough to beat the crowd at Dan'l Boone Inn.  We stopped one last time in Blowing Rock to buy Don and Doug some stupid b-day presents. And then we went home.

july 9th - DILWORTH COFFEEHOUSE - QUAIL CORNERS - CHARLOTTE, NC

We told our good friend Rick Spreitzer that we would fill in for him this night.  We put one of our speakers outside.  I kept forgetting that the people in the parking lot could hear us.  I was talking about my mom and grandma as they were walking in...oops…good thing it was all nice stuff.  This was a 3-hour gig so it was good practice for our show in Blowing Rock coming up the next weekend.  We had a few familiar faces show up...Like I said my grandma and mom, Don and Laurie, GTR, Amy, Ruth, Eric, and I think that's all.  Eric bought a girly t-shirt and I took some pics of him on my phone...but I don't know how to get them off the phone yet.  It was a fun show.  Lea and I hauled rear end to get back to the Muse to hear one of our fav's Y-O-U.
